NUTRITION FOR COLLEGIATE SKIERS
Hello All!
My name is Leo Hipp and I am a graduate student at Northern Michigan University studying Exercise Science. As apart of my degree, I am taking a Sports Nutrition (ES516) class in order to better understand the nutrition recommendations for an athletic population. For this class, I was assigned to make this website, detailing the nutritional aspects of a specific athletic population of my choosing. I decided to target collegiate nordic skiers because of my close relation to this population.
Biography
As mentioned earlier, I am currently studying at Northern Michigan University, working on my Master's Degree in Exercise Science, which I anticipate completing in May, 2021.
Rewinding a bit, I am originally from a small town in Minnesota. I grew up in a hockey family but decided to pursue nordic skiing my freshmen year of high school. Throughout high school I got more serious about skiing and ended up getting an opportunity to ski for Northern Michigan University following high school graduation. In September 2015 I traveled from Minnesota to Marquette, Michigan to start my college journey as both a student and an athlete. I had no idea what I was going to study, all I knew is that I wanted to ski as fast as possible. With guidance from friends and family to help me find my educational path, I found exercise science, and eventually graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Exercise Science from the School of Health and Human Performance. From the time I arrived on campus as a freshman all the way to graduation in May 2019, my experience was invaluable. I grew tremendously as both a student and an athlete during this time.
Following that time in my life, I once again found myself in Marquette, Michigan to finish my last year of athletic eligibility while working on another degree in the field of exercise science. After the hardest semester of my life, I both resented and loved school more than ever. Now I find myself in my second of four semesters of my Master's Degree, hoping to find a position as an NCAA Nordic Skiing Coach following graduation in May 2021.
